Exciting New Adventure

It's been a chaotic couple of months around here--moving two families into their new homes & gearing up for the last weeks of school for the kiddos. You moms, know this means, all of the end of season parties, teacher appreciation, awards ceremonies, etc. We’ve also dealt with crazy storms, down trees, etc.  While it has been chaotic, it's also been super excited too, because our family is doing something new. I announced it to my newsletter subscribers last month & on Instagram a few weeks ago, but it you’ve been living under a rock (or don’t follow me there, which you should), we are building a new home!!

I’m pretty sure I have only dreamed of this my entire adult life & we are making it happen–Matt & I are purchasing land, and building our forever home!!! I don’t think I could possibly be any more excited to #1 finally be able to fully design and build a home for us, just the way we want it; #2 to be able to share the entire process from start to finish with y'all, and #3 to be moving close to some of our dearest friends.

We aren’t going far; it’s actually only a few miles from where we are now.  A little further out, a little less land, a few more neighbors. It’s going to be so great.

We’ve had a couple of meetings with our architect and we almost have the floor plan 100%.   I’ll be sharing the entire process here & Instagram, so I hope you will follow along there, as I talk about products & materials, styles, and just the entire build process.

It's going to be a fun journey & I'm still pinching myself that God would so graciously allow us to be able to do this!  I hope you follow along with us.

The kids seeing the land for the first time.

One of the questions that has come up a lot on social media is why are we moving? Well we weren’t really looking to move or build, but this opportunity was just laid in our laps. We love where we are at & our home, but the kids are growing up (we only have 5 more years with our oldest under our roof, cue the tears), and we aren’t getting any younger (HELLO 40)! Our home we have now is beautiful, but honestly it’s overkill for our needs & family, plus we have always wanted a one-story home. So when this opportunity presented itself, we went to praying about if it was the right move for us & God said yes, so we are moving in obedience.

Give us all the details—style? One-story or two? Is it going to look like your current home?

We are planning on building a one-story home for a few reasons but mostly because I don’t want to have to go up & down the stairs the older I get to clean the house. We are planning forever in this home. The style of our new home will be different, yet the same. My own personal style is timeless (because I refuse to change my home with the trends), warm & cozy-think European cottage, meets 100 year old Southern style farmhouse, but not a farmhouse at all. I truly don’t have the words to explain the vision for this home, but even though it’s new, I want it to feel like it’s been there for 100 of years. We are hoping that it has a good size front porch (currently working on the exterior elevations now) & a mix of brick & stone, so some of the elements of the house will be close to what we have now, but it will also be totally different. I know my explanation of this makes no sense at all, or maybe you can envision it, but hopefully I know what I’m doing to bring this vision to life.

If you are building, thinking about building or just curious how the whole process works I’ll be here sharing it all. Thanks for being on this journey with us!
