Design Essentials: Baskets

I have so much love for baskets-old, new, it doesn’t matter I love them all! They’re an essential decor staple for me and I incorporate them into all of my styling projects, and my own home. Baskets are not only beautiful pieces, they also serve as functional decor. Here are some reasons I love baskets and how you can use them in your home:

  • Baskets add a natural element and texture to a room. I think it’s so important to have earthy, natural elements in your home, such as greenery, and baskets are a great way to incorporate that. Their woven natural fibers are warm and bring in texture, another necessary design element. Colored baskets are also a great way to add a pop of color to your room!

  • Baskets aren’t just pretty, they’re incredibly functional! Use baskets to hide knick-knacks, kid or dog toys, books or magazines and other odds and ends laying around that can be cleaned up.

  • A blanket basket is a must! Find a great basket to put in your living room to store all your coziest blankets while keeping them easily accessible.

  • Use baskets for storage throughout your home including your bathroom, your mudroom, playroom, bedroom… really anywhere! With so many size options out there, you’re sure to find some baskets that fit in any space.

  • Basket walls are a new trend you might have seen on your social media feed lately! Hang baskets on the wall for an interesting decor element. They don’t have to match or be perfect; the differences are part of their character.

  • Use baskets on tables or countertops as trays, serving-ware or centerpieces. They can easily hold greenery, candles, coasters and so much more!

  • Do you have mudroom or laundry room cubbies or shelves? Use baskets for storing seasonal clothes, laundry detergent, grocery bags and your other every-day necessities!
