Jesus Has Overcome! Victory is His!

I was 17 years old the day America was attacked on 9/11. I remember sitting in shock, watching the images on TV, and trying to comprehend what had just happened. For the first time, I realized the depth of hatred that existed in the world—that people could despise Americans so much that they were willing to kill us simply for being who we were. At 17, that was a heavy reality to wrestle with. So much hatred. So little humanity.

Now, as a 41-year-old, I feel that same weight pressing in again, though in a different way. The tragic death of Charlie Kirk has been hard to process. I believe with all my heart that Charlie was killed because he was being effective for the Kingdom of God. He was bold, unashamed, and unwilling to back down from speaking truth—and the enemy hated that.

What I wrestle with most now is not only my own grief, but how to have this conversation with my kids. How do I look them in the eyes and explain that Christians are being killed for their faith—not just in faraway countries, not just in history, but here and now? The Bible tells us this will happen. Jesus Himself said, “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first” (John 15:18). But as believers, it’s easy to think of persecution as something from “Bible times.” Surely not today. Surely not here. And yet, it is.

Following Jesus comes with a cost, but it also comes with a promise. This is what I want my kids to know: to be bold and strong in their faith. To dig into God’s Word and seek Him for wisdom. To trust that while we won’t ever fully understand on this side of heaven, God knows our days. He knew Charlie’s days. He wasn’t shocked by what happened yesterday.

And so, now more than ever, it’s time for us as believers to stand firm in our faith. It’s time to speak the name of Jesus over our nation. The sides may never see eye to eye, but hearts can be changed. We can use our voices for good, but only Jesus can transform hearts.

This is what I know to be true:

  • God is still on His throne. He has not moved, and He is not shaken.

  • The devil may be working overtime, but his time is short.

  • Jesus has already won the victory. We may feel the battle here on earth, but the war is decided.

We will see victory. Not because of anything we do, but because the One who is faithful has already overcome. Even in the darkest moments, His light cannot and will not be extinguished.
